ABOUT BOMBAY BUNTS ASSOCIATION
BOMBAY BUNTS ASSOCIATION (BBA) was started by Bunts Alias Shetty Community who hail from Dakshina Kannada District of Coastal Karnataka. Bunts Community predominantly land owners engaged in agriculture & cultivation. Literally Bunts means soldiers or warriors like the Marathas in Maharashtra. In order to improve their economic conditions, Bunts migrated to the neighbouring State of Maharashtra particularly to Mumbai city and settled down almost a century ago in search of employment / business and livelihood. Due to their hardworking nature and determination to come up in life, they are known as a progressive community. The Bunts Community believes in the old adage “LIVE & LET LIVE“. They are Nationalist force working for the up-liftment of Culture and rich heritage of our Nation. Bunts Community has got the quality of making any sacrifice for the nation whenever the need arises. Several Bunts have participated in the freedom struggle and have even suffered imprisonment during the freedom movement.
BBA came into being in the year 1982 through the earnest and dedicated efforts of a team of pioneering philanthropists imbued with a sincere sense of mission. The Association was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 in the year 1983.
In order to facilitate the numerous activities of the Association inter alia higher education, BBA had procured a plot of land in Navi Mumbai from CIDCO in the year 1999. Thereafter, constructed a building known as “Bunts Center” complex comprising of ground floor plus3 floors at the front side and four floors at the rear side of the building. BBA has the state of the art air-conditioned Auditorium with a seating capacity for about 700 people. The total built up area of the building is 33,500 sq. ft.
Imparting education being one of its primary objects, BBA all along evinced a passionate desire to have its own college at Navi Mumbai. Our present Office Bearers of the Higher Education Committee, Past Presidents & former Office Bearers have been striving relentlessly since inception of the Association for achieving this noble object. Besides having a college of our own in Navi Mumbai, thereby, fulfilling the objectives as enshrined in our constitution, would also be a boon to the less privileged children of our society.
